HL Deb 21 March 1990 vol 517 c391WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether KGB defectors to this country are subject to the Official Secrets Act and, if so, whether Mr. Gordievski's "revelations" have been authorised by Her Majesty's Government and, if so, by which department and whether such authorisation in any way affirms their veracity.

The Viscount Ullswater

The Official Secrets Act 1989 applies to people in this country irrespective of their country of origin. The Act makes it an offence to disclose limited classes of official information in circumstances defined by the Act. Mr. Gordievski has made no such disclosure of which I am aware.
