asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they intend to bring into force Section 1 of the Law of Property (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1989 and Section 130 of the Companies Act 1989.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)

Section 1 of the Law of Property (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1989 will be brought into force on 31st July 1990. Section 130 of the Companies Act 1989 will be brought into force in respect of England, Wales and Scotland on the same date.

How many cases of handling goods worth less than £100 were heard in the Crown Court in the last period of 12 months for which figures are available; what percentage of court business and court time were taken up by these cases in each division of the court; and in how many of these cases would the offence, if proved, have been the first offence by the defendant.
