§ 20. Mr. John MarshallTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement about the future investment in London Underground.
§ Mr. PortilloLondon Underground Limited plans to invest £1.7 billion over the next three years—more than double the level of investment over the last three years. Its plans include major projects such as the extension of the Jubilee line and the 85 new trains for the Central line. The plans also include a host of more modest investment proposals, all designed to make London's underground system safer, more reliable and less congested.
§ 43. Mr. CarringtonTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans his Department has to increase funding to allow increased capacity in London Underground stations.
§ Mr. PortilloThe grant to London Regional Transport will rise from £287 million this year to £672 million in 1992–93. This will, among other things, enable London Underground to invest over £200 million over the next three years in increasing the capacity of the most congested stations, including Victoria, Waterloo, King's Cross, Tottenham Court Road, Holborn and Angel. Schemes have been drawn up for 20 stations and more are in preparation.
