To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish in theOfficial Report tables showing the proportion of (i) manual, (ii) non-manual and (iii) all full-time employees earning less than (a) £160, (b) redundant mineworkers payments scheme (effective from July 1989) and are no longer signing on at unemployment benefit offices, are not available below regional level. The latest regional estimates of the cumulative effect to January 1990 are given in the table:

Estimated Number of Mineworkers by region

  • West midlands—about 700
  • East midlands—a little over 5,000
  • Yorkshire and Humberside—a little over 4,000
  • North West—about 400
  • North—about 2,000
  • Scotland—about 1,500
  • Wales—a little less than 1,000
  • Total—a little over 15,000

Note: There has been little or no effect in the Greater London, South East, East Anglia and South West regions.
