HC Deb 05 March 1990 vol 168 c423W
Mr. Shersby

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what response he is giving to the Northern Ireland police federation's representations concerning(a) the introduction of a provided accommodation allowance and (b) updating of the force rent allowance; and when he expects to lay regulations giving effect to any changes which may take effect from 1 April.

Mr. Cope

The Police Federation for Northern Ireland has not made representations to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland concerning the introduction of a provided accommodation allowance for the RUC. Provided accommodation will continue to be free of rent and rates. The rent allowance for the RUC, which would have been due for updating at 1 April 1990, will not now be updated due to its replacement by the new housing allowance. The RUC (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 1990 which will give effect to the change from rent allowance to housing allowance, will be laid before Parliament not later than 9 March 1990.
