§ Ms. ArmstrongTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide the latest available figures for the number of houses or flats sold to tenants under section 164 of the Local Government and Housing Act for every local authority.
§ Mr. ChopeSection 164 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 brings within the right to buy housing, other than sheltered housing, which is particularly suitable for elderly people and was first let on or after 1 January 1990. The change in the law applies only where the tenant claimed the right to buy on or after 1 March, so sales are unlikely to be completed for some time. An existing non-sheltered property, first let before 1 January, may still be excluded from the right to buy, but only if the Secretary of State determines on the application of the landlord that it is particularly suitable for elderly people and was let for occupation by a person of pensionable age. No application for a determination has yet been received.
