HC Deb 05 March 1990 vol 168 cc515-6W
Sir Barney Hayhoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what are the best estimates of current westbound peak pm flows on the A4 before and after the Hogarth roundabout at Chiswick; and what projections have been taken into account in the appraisal of option 12 of the west London assessment study.

Mr. Atkins

A count of westbound traffic on the A4 east and west of Hogarth roundabout was taken by consultants in May 1989. This revealed flows of approximately 5,000 and 4,500 respectively in the afternoon peak hour.

Option 12 of the west London assessment study has been assessed using data from the London transportation studies model which only provides information for the morning peak. Traffic is expected to increase as a result of economic growth, population changes, etc. The combined effect of these changes and option 12 is forecast to be a reduction of 10 per cent. and 20 per cent. respectively.
