HL Deb 27 June 1990 vol 520 c1718WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations have been made by the survivors of HMT "Dunera" and by the Australian Government in respect of the Jewish refugees who were deported to Australia on that ship in September 1940 and whether they propose to offer compensation to the survivors.

Earl Ferrers:

We have received representations from a small number of individuals interned during the Second World War (not all of whom were deported on the "Dunera") who are now seeking compensation, but none from the Australian government. Those who travelled on the "Dunera" were compensated following the official inquiry at the time for loss of possessions. We have no plans to pay further compensation.
