HL Deb 27 June 1990 vol 520 c1719WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consider establishing with local authorities a comprehensive national heart disease prevention programme, as indicated in the Health Education Authority's report.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Hooper)

A national heart disease prevention programme for England—Look After Your Heart (LAYH)—has been established since April 1987. It is promoted jointly by the Department and the Health Education Authority and has the support of many local authorities in furthering local heart disease prevention initiatives. The report referred to in the question—Mapping the Epidemic—is intended further to encourage and support local initiatives under the LAYH umbrella. Copies of the report have been placed in the Library.
