HC Deb 06 June 1990 vol 173 c642W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what consideration he has given to making available pollution control expertise gained in the United Kingdom oil industry to Romania to assist in environmental clean up of the oil refineries in Ploiesti.

Mr. Trippier

The extent of the environmental damage by the communist regimes in eastern Europe requires international assistance. The United Kingdom is acting primarily through a joint programme co-ordinated by the European Commission. This programme is expected to extend to Romania. In the United Kingdom the oil industry would no doubt consider requests by the Romanian Government where it could offer practical assistance.
