HC Deb 06 June 1990 vol 173 c654W
47. Mr. Buchanan-Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects the dualling of the A92–94 road Perth to Aberdeen to be completed and in operation: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

During the past decade the Government have given high priority to the upgrading of the Perth to Aberdeen route to dual carriageway. During this period, 12 schemes have been completed on the route at a total cost of £75 million. Three further schemes valued in total at nearly £20 million are currently under construction and are all programmed to be completed during this financial year. The penultimate improvement on this route is the £10 million Tarbrax to Forfar scheme, which is due to start construction later this year, leaving the Brechin bypass as the final improvement scheme to be undertaken. The necessary preparatory work and statutory procedures for this scheme are expected to be completed later this year and it will then be considered for a start date in light of its relative priority and available resources.
