Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will detail the steps his Department has taken to ensure that cleaners or other unauthorised people do not have access to personal files in West Register house and other Government offices.

Mr. Rifkind

Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what personal information is held on files in West Register house.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

West Register house is a branch repository of the Scottish Record Office. Its main contents are the records of Government Departments, non-departmental public bodies, nationalised industries and courts in Scotland from the 17th century to the present day, many of which contain personal information.
