HC Deb 05 June 1990 vol 173 cc462-3W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has received urging maintenance of all forms of pressure against South Africa.

Mr. Waldegrave

We regularly receive representations on a wide range of issues relating to South Africa from organisations, from members of the public, and from hon. Members of this House.

Mr. Caborn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) how many British passport holders there are in South Africa;

(2) how many residents of South Africa are eligible for British passports.

Mr. Sainsbury

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office estimates that there are between half a million and 1 million people living in South Africa eligible to hold British passports. The majority have the right to live in the United Kingdom.
