Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will place in the Library whatever information is available on the average annual running cost of(a) the defence arms control unit, (b) the Directorate General Information Technology Systems, (c) the equipment accounting centre, (d) the Royal Naval supply and transport service, (e) the Royal Corps of Signals, (f) the Royal Corps of Transport, (g) the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, (h) the Army Catering Corps, (i) the Royal Pioneer Corps, (j) the Royal Army Education Corps, (k) the Royal Army Medical Services, (l) the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, (m) the Army Physical Training Corps, (n) the Royal Army Chaplains' Department, (o) the General Service Corps, (p) the Royal Army Pay Corps, (q) the Women's Royal Army Corps, (r) the Royal Military academy Sandhurst, and (s) the Royal Military school of music.

The figure for the average annual running cost of the corps and other organisations listed by the hon. Gentleman is not held in the form required and could be given only at disproportionate cost.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his policy regarding the release of information on the average annual running costs of service units.

Information on the running cost of service units, as on other subjects, is given freely, provided it can be made available in the form required without disproportionate cost and without compromising security.
