§ Mr. RedmondTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer of 11 July,Official Report, column 245, what are the reasons why insurance cover is not provided for non-military persons having flights in military aircraft; and what steps are taken to ensure that non-military persons are aware that they have no insurance cover.
§ Mr. Archie HamiltonIf a non-military person undertaking an air experience flight in a United Kingdom military aircraft were injured as a result of the Ministry of Defence's negligence, the individual could, under common law, pursue a claim for compensation against the Ministry. The Ministry is not insured against this eventuality, choosing to carry it as an acceptable risk. Non-military personnel are not routinely advised of the Ministry's insurance position.
