To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what funding has been made available by his Department for the foundation of a centre for defence studies at King's college in the university of London.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The amount of grant will be agreed with the Ministry each year, the objective being to sustain the centre each year for up to five years with a grant equivalent to £100,000 at 1989–90 prices. The aim is that in the longer term the centre shall become financially independent of Ministry funding.
