HC Deb 25 July 1990 vol 177 c254W
Mr. Boswell

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the 1990 harvest.

Mr. Maclean

Much of the winter barley crop has now been harvested in good conditions. Latest reports indicate that quality is around average and yields variable, with lower yields being obtained from barley grown on light land which has been most affected by lack of water. Harvesting of spring barley has only just started and harvesting of the wheat crop is expected to begin shortly. It is too early to say what the overall quality and size of the 1990 United Kingdom cereals harvest is likely to be.
