HL Deb 24 July 1990 vol 521 c1432WA
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied with the European Community negotiating mandate for the current GATT negotiations in Geneva on the matter of subsidised agricultural exports; and whether this is sufficiently flexible to allow agreement with the demands of all other negotiating parties for a phasing out of these subsidies over an agreed period of time.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)

Her Majesty's Government fully support the negotiating position of the European Community in the GATT Uruguay Round. All parties to the negotiation, including the Community, are committed to achieving substantial and progressive reductions in agricultural support and protection, and we are working hard with our Community partners to ensure a successful outcome to the round.
