McCartneyTo ask the Attorney-General what steps the Lord Chancellor's Department is taking to prevent child abduction to the Isle of Man.
§ The Attorney-GeneralThe Lord Chancellor's Department is working with other Departments and the Isle of Man authorities to extend to the Isle of Man the Hague convention on the civil aspects of international child abduction and the European convention on recognition and enforcement of decisions concerning custody of children and on restoration of custody of children, and to provide for the reciprocal enforcement of orders between the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom in the same circumstances that currently allow enforcement between the three United Kingdom jurisdictions under part I of the Family Law Act 1986. Criminal sanctions already exist in relation to abductions from England and Wales to the Isle of Man.
§ Mr. McCartneyTo ask the Attorney-General how many children have been abducted to the Isle of Man by a parent during each of the last five years.
§ The Attorney-GeneralThe Lord Chancellor's Department does not hold any information as to the number of children abducted by a parent to the Isle of Man, as the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985 does not extend to the Isle of Man.
