To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the value of national health service drugs administered in Northern Ireland(a) in total and (b) in hospitals in the latest year for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

The total expenditure on drugs in Northern Ireland for the latest financial year available, 1988–89, was £78.21 million, of which £9.96 million was hospital expenditure.
