HC Deb 19 July 1990 vol 176 c729W
Dr. Woodcock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the recreation duties of the National Rivers Authority.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

Section 8 of the Water Act 1989 imposes upon the National Rivers Authority a duty to make available for recreation the waters and associated lands to which it has rights. This section also places upon the National Rivers Authority a duty to promote the use of other inland and coastal waters and land associated with such waters for recreational purposes.

In carrying out these duties I understand that the National Rivers Authority seeks advice from the statutory regional rivers advisory committee.
