HL Deb 19 July 1990 vol 521 c1106WA
Lord Swinfen

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many of the 130,000 empty dwellings in Greater London on 1st April 1989 remained empty on 1st April 1990; how many of these are owned by local housing authorities and of these how many are habitable.

Lord Hesketh

Estimates for April 1990 provided by local authorities in their annual housing investment programme returns will not become available until later in the year. These will include estimates of total vacant dwellings in local authority, other public, housing association or other private ownership; and, for local authority properties only, the number that had been empty for more than a year and those that were available for letting at 1st April 1990. At 1st April 1989 there were a reported 21,300 empty local authority dwellings in Greater London, of which 8,200 had been empty for over a year, and 9,200 were available for letting or awaiting only minor repairs.
