HL Deb 16 July 1990 vol 521 c735WA
The Earl of Ilchester

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the statement by the Secretary of State for Defence that "the case for the transfer of the selection centre to RAF Cranwell remains compelling on both operational and financial grounds" (HC Deb. 19th June, col. 546) takes into account the wider implications of the current defence review and, in particular, the scope for further rationalisation by combining the officer and aircrew selection centre requirements of the three services in a single unit.

The Earl of Arran

The RAF officer and aircrew selection centre already undertakes aptitude testing for the other two services and this is expected to continue following the move to RAF Cranwell. Further rationalisation of selection procedures is unlikely.
