To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if his Department has made any changes in its information-gathering and data base programme following the recommendations of the 1987 report on the handling of geographic information by the committee chaired by Lord Chorley.

The Department is investigating and developing the use of digital mapping and geographic information technology with the aim of improving the handling of spatial information. Developments to date include the computerisation of environmental data for environmentally sensitive areas and support for the United Kingdom digital marine atlas programme.
