HC Deb 09 July 1990 vol 176 c75W
Mrs. Roe

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what help is currently being given to families on low incomes.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

A range of benefits is available to families on low income. Child benefit continues to provide a worthwhile contribution to the costs of bringing up children. Lone parents are also eligible to receive one parent benefit. In addition help is available in the form of a range of income-related benefits—income support, family credit, housing benefit and community charge benefit. Expenditure on each main benefit is set out in "The Government's Expenditure Plans 1990–91 to 1992–93" (Cm. 1014), copies of which are in the Library.
