§ Mrs. ChalkerSince September 1989 I have announced two pledges totalling £1 million for relief in Angola. Detailed discussions with the Angolan authorities and international and British relief agencies have been necessary because of the very difficult logistical and organisational problems present in Angola. All of the first £500,000, and £240,000 from the second pledge, has now been allocated to specific requirements. We are ready to allocate the remainder as it becomes possible to do so. Reconstruction is unlikely to be possible on a large scale until the fighting has stopped.
