HC Deb 27 February 1990 vol 168 c112W
Mr. David Shaw

To ask the Attorney-General what consideration he has given to the health and safety implications of flicker light in the courts.

The Attorney-General

Lighting in courts is designed to conform to the standards and codes of practice current at the time of installation.

Professional advice to the Lord Chancellor's Department indicates that there is no firm evidence that fluorescent lighting constitutes a health and safety risk. If there were evidence that any particular mode of lighting constituted a risk to health or safety, the standards would be amended to eliminate such risk.
