To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the latest figures in the north-east for the number of people living in bed-and-breakfast accommodation.

At the end of September 1989 there were an estimated 80 households temporarily living in bed-and-breakfast accommodation who had been accepted as homeless by local authorities in Tyne and Wear, Cleveland, Durham and Northumberland.
