HC Deb 05 February 1990 vol 166 c508W
Mrs. Fyfe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will bring forward legislation to ensure that Scottish wildcats are protected from extinction.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 2 February 1990]: The Scottish wildcat (Felis silvestris) was added to schedule 5 to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 under the Variation of Schedules Order 1988. It is an offence intentionally to kill, injure or take any wild animal included in the schedule. Following an increase in recent years, the numbers of wildcats have stabilised.
