HC Deb 02 February 1990 vol 166 c392W
Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make it his policy to make provision for the protection of badger setts.

Mr. Trippier

It is an offence to destroy a badger sett if badgers may be unavoidably killed or injured as a result. A recent survey has shown that the badger is not under threat of extinction, not likely to become so and there are therefore no conservation grounds for extending the already substantial degree of protection afforded to badgers to the badger sett.
