HC Deb 17 December 1990 vol 183 cc1-2W
Mr. Shersby

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what bids for increased manpower have been made by the chief constable of Derbyshire since 1987; and how many additional police officers have been appointed as a result.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

The Derbyshire police authority has made two applications since 1987. It applied for 34 additional posts for 1990–91 and was informed that it could have 19 extra posts subject to confirmation that it would meet its share of the cost. The police authority, however, declined to meet its share of the cost following community charge capping of the county council. The offer of the posts was, therefore, withdrawn. The police authority has made an application for 15 extra posts in 1991–92. This is being considered.
