To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many men were(a) convicted and (b) cautioned for the offence of procuring the commission of homosexual acts contrary to section 4 of the Sexual Offences Act 1967; and of those convicted and cautioned, how many were convicted or cautioned because the procuration related (i) to male homosexual prostitution, (ii) to the facilitation of homosexual acts not involving prostitution, and (iii) to the facilitation of homosexual acts which were otherwise lawful, in each year from 1980 to 1989;

(2) how many men over the age of 16 years were (a) convicted and (b) cautioned for the offence of committing a consensual homosexual act in private, but where one or more other persons were present in another part of the house or flat, contrary to section 1(2)(a) of the Sexual Offences Act 1967; and of those men convicted, how many were (i) fined, giving the 10 highest fines imposed, (ii) given a suspended sentence, giving the lengths of these suspended sentences in each case and (iii) imprisoned, giving the length of these custodial sentences in each individual case, for each year from 1980 to 1989.

Information for 1980 to 1989 for males convicted and cautioned under section 4 of the Sexual Offences Act 1967 is given in the table. Information is not collected on the circumstances of the offence. It is not possible from the information held centrally to identify the number of convictions and cautions for homosexual acts which were done when more than two persons took part or were present.
