HL Deb 06 December 1990 vol 524 cc19-20WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they nave reason to believe that either Israel or Iraq has a nuclear weapons programme and whether their information confirms that Israel's is more advanced; and whether in their view the existence of one nuclear weapons programme in that area was always likely to lead to another.

The Earl of Caithness

We have no firm evidence either to confirm or deny rumours that Israel may have a nuclear weapons programme. With regard to Iraq, I refer the noble Lord to the Answer I gave on 16th October to the noble Lord, Lord Jenkins of Putney.
