HC Deb 04 December 1990 vol 182 c97W
Mr. Salmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has received any representations from British Steel about its long-term plans for the quench and temper facility at Clydesdale and the finishing facility at the Imperial works.

Mr. Allan Stewart

[holding answer 3 December 1990]: When my right hon. and learned Friend last met the chairman of British Steel, he told him that British Steel intended, subject to concluding satisfactory arrangements, to continue operations at the Imperial works. Imperial would be supplied with lower cost pipe from abroad, some of which would be heat treated initially at the quench and temper plant at Clydesdale.
