HC Deb 30 April 1990 vol 171 c384W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a further statement on the presence of carbon tetrachloride in public water supplies near the Harwell Atomic Energy Authority site.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

Thames Water Utilities has kept the Department informed of the results of monitoring for carbon tetrachloride in the water taken from its Blewbury borehole and put into public supply. Since the beginning of April the water has contained between 0.7 and 1.6 micrograms per litre which is well below the prescribed concentration of 3 micrograms per litre in the Water Quality Regulations.
