HC Deb 18 April 1990 vol 170 c917W
Sir John Farr

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will introduce a policy of using only British ships for the shipment of United Kingdom aid cargoes.

Mrs. Chalker

No. Government policy is that aid cargoes should be shipped in accordance with normal commercial competitive practice and not directed to ships or companies of any particular flag or country. This policy is designed to ensure value for money for the aid programme.
