To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when there was last a full fire inspection of the House and its outbuildings.

Mr. Chope

The last full fire inspection of the Palace, which took approximately six months to undertake, was completed in 1986. The majority of the outbuildings were inspected in the last financial year and the remainder will be in the current financial year.

In addition, all proposed alterations to the fabric of buildings are agreed with the fire officer before the work is carried out.
