§ Mr. David ShawTo ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, pursuant to his answer of 15 February,Official Report, column 389, if his Department has discovered further contacts with Garston Amhurst Associates.
§ Mr. RedwoodSince I told the House on 15 February, at columns390-91, of a contact between my Department and Garston Amhurst Associates in 1984, a further letter has been found on a general file when looking for unrelated documents. This was dated 13 October 1987 and sent to my Department by GAA's solicitors. It enclosed a letter from GAA to a third party, which stated categorically that GAA did not need a PF(I) licence because it did not deal in securities. It also recorded a telephone conversation with an official in the DTI of which we have no independent record. I am sorry that this came to light only after the previous question was answered.
