HC Deb 05 April 1990 vol 170 c779W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on plans laid for the protection of Dungeness head in Kent.

Mr. Trippier

Dungeness is a site of special scientific interest notified by the Nature Conservancy Council under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. It has also been identified as meeting the criteria necessary for designation as a special protection area under the EC directive on the conservation of wild birds (79/409/EEC) and as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar convention (Cmnd. 6465) and, therefore, the advice to planning authorities contained in Department of the Environment circular 27/87 applies.
