§ Mr. WaldegraveNATO has long supported the cause for freedom in the German Democratic Republic and throughout eastern Europe. We welcome the democratic election in the GDR. The establishment of a genuine democracy there will contribute to stability and security in Europe. We stress the crucial importance of continued German membership of NATO.
