HC Deb 26 October 1989 vol 158 c566W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, further to his replies of 17 May,Official Report, columns 212–13, and of 19 June, Official Report, column 44, whether those provisions awaiting implementation on 19 June have now been implemented.

Mr. Gummer

Yes. New orders come into force today which extend compulsory testing for salmonella to include hatcheries and include registration requirements which will apply from 2 April 1990, for breeding and laying flocks and hatcheries. Codes of practice on the production of final feed for livestock and animal protein were introduced on 7 August. The adoption of these measures reflects the Government's determination to tackle the salmonella problem at each point along the chain from poultry feeding stuffs, through the breeding flocks and hatcheries to the laying houses and then on to the home.
