To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the change in the number of weekly net business start-ups in the east midlands from 1987–88 to 1988–89.

In 1987, the number of businesses registered for VAT in the east midlands rose by an estimated 3,000, or an average of 58 a week. The estimated increase in 1988 was 4,100, an average of 79 a week.
