HL Deb 07 November 1989 vol 512 c700WA
Lord Denning

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, following the first answer of Earl Ferrers on 19th October (H.L.) Deb. col. 1129), the Crown, as parens patriae, accepts the view of the Charity Commissioners that Section 29 of the Charities Act 1960 authorises them to make "sale orders" at their own discretion without notice to the parish council or other interested persons.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)

Section 29 of the Charities Act 1960 does not require the Charity Commissioners to give notice to the parish Council or other interested persons before making an order under that section for the sale of charity property.
