To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will give the respective acreages and yields for the last five years of(a) wheat, (b) barley, (c) oats, (d) rye and (e) other cereals produced in the United Kingdom.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the number of laying hens in the United Kingdom at the latest date for which figures are available and on the equivalent date of 1988.

Mr. Curry

Details of the size of the laying flock in the United Kingdom, taken from the United Kingdom agricultural census which is held in June each year, are given in the table. These figures are for fowls laying eggs for human consumption and include estimates for very small holdings in England and Wales (but not for Scotland or Northern Ireland).
