HL Deb 15 May 1989 vol 507 cc1035-6WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether two prison officers entered the cell of Mr. Charles Pitts in Wandsworth Prison on 9th December and if so, for what purpose; what were the names of the two officers; whether either of the two officers reported injuries to themselves and if so, whether this was confirmed by medical examination; and whether they will place in the Library of the House of Lords copies of the report made by the Deputy Governor on 14th December an extract from which was given in an undated letter to Mr. Pitts' solicitors, Edward Fail Bradshaw & Waterson, received by them on 21st April.

Earl Ferrers

This matter is currently the subject of a police investigation and it would not therefore be proper for me to comment. My hounourable friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State wrote to the noble Lord about the investigation on 11th May.
