To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the nature of the contacts between his Department and the relevant United States and Russian authorities in relation to co-operation in the event of accidents to nuclear-powered naval vessels.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The Ministry of Defence would, where possible, lend whatever assistance was requested in the event of an accident involving a nuclear-powered naval vessel belonging to another country.
