asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many of the Hong Kong applicants for British citizenship under Section 4(5) of the British Nationality Act 1981 have succeeded on account of wartime service to the Crown in the Armed Forces; and, apart from these, how many have succeeded under this subsection on account of (a) paid, and (b) unpaid service to the Crown.

Fifty-one applicants have succeeded on account of service in the defence of Hong Kong under the Government of Hong Kong. Of the others, eight successful applicants under Section 4(5) of the 1981 Act gave paid service to the Crown and four unpaid.
