Mr. Bill Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total complement of the Scottish fishing fleets; what are the categories of vessels; how many fishermen are employed in the industry; and where are the home ports of the vessels.

At the end of 1988 there were 8,71.1 fishermen employed in Scotland. The table shows the number of vessels in the Scottish fishing fleet at 31 December 1988 split by base district and by main method of fishing.
