HC Deb 08 May 1989 vol 152 c345W
38. Mr. Mullin

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will give figures for the level of Her Majesty's Government's aid given to Kampuchea in 1988; and if he will make a statement on future aid policy for Kampuchea.

Mr. Chris Patten

Aid to Cambodia amounted to £402,000 in the 1988–89 financial year. This comprised a contribution of £100,000 to the special FAO/World Food Programme appeal, £250,000 to the UNICEF programme, and £52,000 on projects administered by British voluntary agencies.

It is still too early to consider the provision of Government-to-Government aid. We will reconsider the position when Vietnam has fully withdrawn from its illegal occupation of Cambodia and an acceptable political settlement is in place.
