To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether his Department has considered and responded to the Countryside Commission's proposal for the creation of a new forest in the midlands; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 21 March 1989]: I understand that the Countryside Commission intends to submit proposals For the creation of a new forest in the midlands to the Department later this year, alter considering a feasibility study by consultants and carrying out consultations with the Forestry Commission and other interests.
